HAMWORTHY United manager Phil Simkin thought his depleted side "battered" Horndean before losing the game 2-1.
Hammers fell behind to a cracking 25-yard volley but youngster Greg Horlock struck at a corner to equalise.
Simkin said his side were well on top before conceding the winner with 15 minutes left on the clock.
"In the second half, quite frankly, we battered them but missed four or five chances, a couple from six yards when it looked easier to score," he said.
Hammers had three players out suspended and a few others, including Jack Swann, sidelined through injury.
Hamworthy United: Peters, Gilbert, Grimason, Horlock, Walker, Dean (Chivers 65), Legg, Hubbard, Dovell, Byerley, Jackson (Middleton 70).
