BOSS Matty Holmes admitted Wimborne Town had to learn to deal with the intense physicality of Southern League South.

Magpies have lost three of their first four games since taking promotion to step three, including Monday’s 4-0 home defeat to arch rivals Poole Town.

Holmes’s side on Saturday make the trip to bottom side Chesham United – the only team yet to record a point in the division.

The Cuthbury manager told the Daily Echo: “We have to go there nice and confident, stick to our beliefs and principles and deal with the physicality a bit better.

“The first four games have been frantic and we’ve had to have tin helmets on! So far we have not come across too many teams who play out from the back and pass the ball through midfield.

“Every week when you play teams like that, it’s intense. It’s physically and mentally demanding because you have to be on the ball all the time.

“I want my boys to try to get it down and play. At some stage you have to stick to your principles and try to work through it. If you can get your rewards, it’s even better.”

Wimborne are hoping to have Jack Lovell fit following a neck injury.
