SKIPPER Nathan Walker hailed his Hamworthy United team-mates after they had pulled off an FA Cup giant-killing by claiming the scalp of AFC Totton.

Jamie Filkins bagged the only goal in the 78th minute as Sydenhams Wessex Premier Hammers saw off the Southern League Division One South Stags at the Specsavers County Ground.

Filkins’ late winner earned Callum Brooks's men £2,890 in prize money and booked them a place in the first qualifying round for the fourth year in succession.

Captain Walker told the Daily Echo: “It was a fantastic result. We weren’t expected to beat them but showed we can compete with teams in a higher league.

“We had a game plan and stuck to it. The manager went to watch them on Tuesday and did his homework and it paid off for us.”

Lymington Town also progressed after a double from Ash Jarvis helped them see off Combined Counties Division One Frimley Green at New Milton’s Fawcett’s Field.

Jarvis’s brace booked Lymington a place in the first qualifying round for the first time in their history, having competed in the competition for 13 years.

Poppies bowed out following a 1-0 defeat at Winchester City where Tyrell Mitford’s disputed late penalty earned the Southern League Division One South outfit a narrow victory.

And Will Tickle’s spot kick proved in vain as Brockenhurst suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Hellenic League Premier outfit Binfield.
