CHRISTER Warren revealed that a change of system did the trick as his Wimborne Town side produced a five-star FA Cup performance.

The Wimborne boss switched to 4-3-3 in an attempt to break down Western Premier outfit Brislington's normally tight defence and the tactical move paid off in some style, with Wimborne cruising to a 5-0 victory.

"It was a great result," said Warren.

"After what happened at Poole Town (2-0 defeat), it was a good reaction from the lads.

"After a defeat like that you never know what you'll get but we responded in the right way. It was nice to get goals and a clean sheet for the boys."

Warren's change of formation proved key against Brislington's flat back four.

"We tried it out and it worked really well," he said.

"The movement was a bit better and it was pleasing. The lads applied the system really well.

"They played a flat back four and hadn't been conceding or scoring, so we thought rather than match them we'd change and it worked."

Wimborne came under the cosh in the opening exchanges but they didn't take long to find their feet.

"They caused us problems in the first 10 or 15 minutes because we changed the system and it took time to get used to that," explained Warren.

"After that we created and went in 3-0 up at half time, it could've been more than that."

Hotshot striker Scott Joyce continued his excellent start to the campaign with a brace, while Steve Whitcher, Kevin James and Sam Percival also got on the scoresheet.

It was his side's all-round performance that pleased Warren most.

He said: "I'm not one for singling out people, the whole team from back to front worked really hard.

"When we didn't have the ball against Poole that didn't happen.

"Everyone worked their socks off and that's what happens at this level - work rate then quality comes after that."

Saturday's victory earned Wimborne a trip to Southern Premier side Clevedon Town in the first qualifying round on September 15.

Clevedon drew 0-0 against Bashley at the weekend and Warren expects his side to go into that tie as underdogs.

"It's good for the club to get that extra money (from the cup run)," said Warren.

"We've got a difficult tie away to Clevedon and we'll go there as underdogs."
