A FIRST win of the season appeared theirs for the taking when openers Ryan Beck and Tom Arnold guided New Milton to 89 without loss, chasing Alton’s 225 for eight.

But once Dan Scott had broken the stand, Milton collapsed with all 10 wickets falling for another 58 as they sank to 147 all out and a 12th straight defeat.

New Milton had started the second phase of 50-over games on a bright note with teenager Campbell Golding taking two wickets in three balls to reduce Alton to 15 for two.

Mike Heffernan steadied the ship before Dan Harris (57) and Scott Myers (46) steered the Brewers to a competitive total.

Beck, with 10 boundaries in his 57, and Arnold (32) took the fight back to Alton, but the decisive breakthroughs by Scott (4-22) sent the wickets tumbling.

Leading SPL wicket-taker Julian Ballinger (4-22) rapped up the innings with three wickets in four balls.

Bashley were on the receiving end of a heavy eight-wicket defeat at the hands of Hampshire Academy.

Michael Porter (22) and Phil Morris (21) helped them recover from 41 for three to 70 for four but wickets continued to fall at regular intervals as they succumbed for 127.

And although Josh Digby and Kevin Nash removed the Academy openers, Tom Scriven (71) and Fletcha Middleton (40) remained undefeated as they reached their target off 24.3 overs.
