FERNDOWN’S Iain Weaver insists he is prepared to go the distance when he takes on Emmanuel Addo for the vacant PBC Commonwealth Lightweight Championship tomorrow.

Southpaw Weaver will step into the ring at the Beach Ballroom in Aberdeen for the first scheduled 12-round fight of his career.

Ghana’s Addo competed in the Olympics and is likely to provide a stern test for The Blessed One.

But Weaver, who trains under the watchful eye of father Jay at Ferndown ABC, says he is ready for the challenge.

He told the Daily Echo: “My past six fights have only gone two rounds but I do the rounds in the gym.

“I had three different sparring partners for 12 rounds during this camp and I was fine.

“I’ve always been better over the longer distances, so I feel a longer fight is better for me. I’m looking forward to getting in there and picking up another title.

“I’ve boxed a couple of Ghanaians before and they were tough, come-forward fighters who want to take your head off and I think he will be the same.

“I will dig in and make him respect me.”

Weaver and Addo had been due to lock horns for the PBC International Championship earlier this month but Addo failed to secure a visa in time.
