BOSS Kevin Bond believes Cherries new boy Marvin Bartley has "all the attributes" to make a name for himself at Dean Court.

And Bond also says the untried 21-year-old "thoroughly deserves" an opportunity to prove he can step up from the non-league ranks.

Combative midfielder Bartley yesterday quit his job as a window fitter after signing a one-year deal with Cherries, his first pro contract.

Bartley, who has represented England Colleges, turned out for Hampton and Richmond in the Isthmian League last season and also had spells with Hayes and Didcot Town.

Bond told the Daily Echo: "I know he will have a really good go because he is desperate to succeed. He's a great lad as well and we are happy to have him on board.

"He's young, keen and athletic - all the attributes you need to be a professional footballer these days. I think he's got a lot of improvement in him and we will look to realise his potential.

"He works very hard and has plenty of energy. He knows he's still got a lot to learn but we think he thoroughly deserves this chance.

"He certainly hasn't let himself down when he's played and we have taken the view that he has every chance of progressing now he's in the full-time ranks."

Bond added: "There are going to be lots of ups and downs along the way for him but he's as hungry as you like. I asked him if he wanted to become a professional footballer, and, within 30 minutes, he had signed.

"I think that says something about him. You can see it in their eyes and if he doesn't make the grade, it won't be for the lack of trying."
