LUKE Burbidge made an immediate impact on his Wimborne Town debut despite them falling to a 3-1 defeat to Bristol Manor Farm.

Goals from Troy Simpson, Jacob Cox and Ben Bament put the visitors in the box seat at Cuthbury before Burbidge, who is on a month’s loan from Poole Town, struck a consolation in the 78th minute.

And while Magpies suffered a third successive Southern League West reverse, manager Matty Holmes is hopeful Burbidge can help turn around Wimborne’s fortunes.

He told the Daily Echo: “It was a really good home debut from Luke, who got his goal late on.

“He has huge talent and when we were made aware that he wanted to come over, we were quite surprised.

“He worked with my brother and I at Bournemouth years ago and he knows what we want to try to do at Wimborne in playing a possession game.

“We are delighted to have him for the month and getting him back enjoying his football. Hopefully, he can improve us as well.”

Skipper Scott Arnold made his return from injury during the encounter but Holmes revealed striker Toby Holmes had broken his toe in the clash at Winchester City and is set for another two weeks out.
