NEW Verwood Town chairman Martin Gilham conceded the start to the season had been “very challenging” for the Wessex Premier club.

The Potters currently prop up the table, having gained one win and three draws from their opening 10 league games.

Verwood dispensed with the services of Gavin Reeves as manager after taking just one point from their first six games with ex-boss Adie Arnold returning to the hot-seat.

The Potters, who drew 0-0 with Newport on Saturday in Gilham’s first official game at the helm, host Bemerton Heath at Potterne Park tonight (7.45pm).

In his first programme notes, Gilham, who is also chairman of Rossgarth Youth, wrote: “The start of the current season has been very challenging for Verwood Town FC with a number of committee members standing down and changes in team management.

“The club has pulled together during this period and plans for future growth are being generated. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all involved with the club for their support over recent weeks.”

Meanwhile, Christchurch will be aiming to build on Saturday’s 3-1 win over Totton & Eling when they host Wessex One leaders Hamble Club at Hurn Bridge (7.45pm).
