BOB Dilkes wrote a new chapter in the Bournemouth Open record books by becoming only the second double winner in the 56-year history of the prestigious tournament.

The Knighton Heath four-handicapper, victorious in 2004, repeated the feat when he registered a one-shot triumph over Queens Park's Simon Horn in the 72-hole strokeplay.

Dilkes, who shot a nett 282 four-round total over Meyrick Park (67, 68) and Queens Park (74, 73), admitted his victory was steady rather than spectacular.

He said: "The amazing thing was that I didn't get my first birdie until the eighth hole of the final round. I played steady from tee to green but nothing dropped for me."

Dilkes, who is also a member at Meyrick Park, believes a par-saving four at the 17th on his home course in his third round was a crucial turning point.

"I pulled my drive and was blocked out at the top of the hill," he said. "I hit a wedge to the 18th tee, a sand wedge on to the green and then sunk a 20-footer for par."
