DORSET'S Shaun Webster saw his hopes of a lucrative top-10 finish dashed by a costly triple bogey at his penultimate hole in the final round of the Austrian Open in Vienna.

The Canford Magna touring pro, who was in a tie for fourth place with just seven holes remaining, carded a six at the 182-yard par three 17th - a hole he had birdied twice during the event.

It was Webster's only real blemish as the unflappable 30-year-old continued to maintain the rich vein of form which had seen him lock horns with the leaders throughout the tournament.

But instead of collecting a handsome pay cheque to match his endeavours over the first 70 holes, Webster was left to count the cost after faltering within touching distance of the finishing line.

His four-round total of 276 left him on eight-under and saw him bank prize money of £9,571 for a share of 21st place, eight shots behind winner Richard Green who beat Jean-Francois Remesy in a play-off.

Webster had started the final day tied for eighth place at nine-under after adding a three-under 68 to his first two rounds of 65 and 71.

And his closing round had started promisingly when he went out in 34 to reach the turn at 10-under after picking up birdies at the fifth, sixth and ninth, having dropped shots at the second and eighth.

A two at the par-three 11th saw Webster climb the leaderboard to fourth before a bogey at the next was cancelled out by a birdie - his 19th of the tournament - at 16.
