TASKMASTER Matt Ford watched Poole Pirates rip through their modern-day records with six straight maximums and then challenged his riders to repeat the feat at Coventry.
Pirates swatted the Bees 60-29 at Wimborne Road on Wednesday, fighting back from an early deficit to plunder a total of nine maximum heat victories on a memorable night.
Club officials are still wading through the archives but the last instance of such a dominant display found so far is the 68-16 thrashing of Yarmouth in July 1952, featuring 10 maximums with seven in succession.
Ford told the Daily Echo: “I sent out a message to congratulate the boys. They put on a great show but we cannot take our eyes off the prize.
“Brandon is a tough circuit and we will need each and every rider to show their quality once more if we are to come away with the victory.”
Meanwhile, Pirates will now visit King’s Lynn instead of Belle Vue on Wednesday. The Aces are still trying to repair their track.
“Unfortunately, Belle Vue are still carrying out necessary work but Sky will televise this meeting instead.
"That means fans who can’t travel to Norfolk can still get their speedway fix, which is never a bad thing,” added Ford.
