CHARLIE Austin was in attendance to witness former clubs Poole Town and Hungerford Town share a 0-0 draw at Bulpit Lane on Monday.
The QPR striker, the subject of intense transfer speculation after scoring 18 Premier League goals last term, was among those who turned out for a Southern Premier encounter of few chances.
Austin scored 64 goals in 57 appearances for Poole but there was little evidence on the field of the finishing touch that the 26-year-old had showed during his spell at Tatnam in 2008 and 2009.
Nevertheless, Dolphins boss Tom Killick was content to return to Dorset with a point.
He told the Daily Echo: "It was good to catch up with Charlie because I haven't seen him since his wedding earlier this summer, and overall I was pleased with our effort up there.
"Hungerford are a very strong team and I feel very sure that come the end of the season, they won't have dropped many points at home. In those circumstances, a draw can be considered a good outcome.
"There weren't many clear-cut chances created by either side. We would have liked to have been a little bit more incisive in our play but it was still a really good, collective effort.
"Defensively, I thought we were exceptional and Lewis Tallack gave an inspired performance.
"Every team that plays against Hungerford knows they are going to face a bombardment of long balls and physicality and I thought we stood up to it."
Dolphins: Hutchings, Tallack, Lindsay, Walker, Whisken, Pettefer, Burbidge (Davidson, 73), Devlin, Roberts (Holmes, 52), Brooks, Gillespie (Connell, 80). Unused subs: Emmerson, McCarthy (g/k).
- Former Poole and New Milton striker Morgan Turner has completed a move to Southern South & West outfit Wimborne.
Magpies boss Steve Cuss told the club website: “Morgan shows great potential and is a player we hope to develop through Southern League experience."
- Verwood Town host Fawley in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier tomorrow night (7.30pm).
