WINGER Matt Ritchie insisted his first international goal would live long in the memory – even if it was not his cleanest strike.
Man of the match Ritchie’s low drive from 20 yards proved decisive as Scotland beat Qatar 1-0 at Hibernian’s Easter Road on Friday.
Dean Court’s creative catalyst told the Scottish FA: “It was a great feeling. Everyone loves scoring goals – to score my first for Scotland was a great moment and something I will remember forever.
“I scuffed it actually! I got a little bit lucky in the middle of the park, it came off Steven Naismith’s heel and, lucky enough, fell into my path. I managed to put it in the bottom corner, which was pleasing.”
Meanwhile, team-mate Harry Arter played the last 27 minutes as Republic of Ireland drew 0-0 with England yesterday.
Ritchie and Arter could go head-to-head when their respective countries face-off in a Euro 2016 qualifier in Dublin on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Cherries defender Baily Cargill played 55 minutes as England under-20s beat China 3-1 at the Toulon Tournament.
The Three Lions now face the United States in a third-place play-off.
