KEVIN Bond is keen to put talk of his future on the back-burner as he channels his efforts into keeping Cherries in League One.

Bond, whose contract is due for renewal in the summer, says he is more concerned with giving his full attention to Cherries' relegation fight.

The 49-year-old made an inauspicious start in his first league post as a manager but has recently overseen an upturn in the club's fortunes.

In a candid interview and fielding questions put by the Daily Echo, Bond said: "I haven't spoken to the new owners about my situation or, indeed, about any of the players' situations.

"I haven't had a footballing discussion with them since they took control and until we get closer to where we want to be, I don't envisage having that conversation, whether it's about players or me."

Asked whether he would like the opportunity to guide Cherries next season, Bond replied: "I'm extremely keen to continue my managerial career but I'm only going to be able to do that if we continue to pick up results.

"As far as I'm concerned, one takes care of the other and I'm only concentrating on the here and now."

Bond, who took the reins in mid-October, has taken charge of 30 competitive games and has started to make his mark after suffering six successive league defeats immediately following his appointment.

"I've learned a lot," he said "I've learned a lot about the league, about the players in the league, and, most importantly, about the players at our club.

"I've learned from the mistakes I was making and the mistakes we were making because they were costing us early on. I'm a little bit wiser as to the bigger picture and hopefully we won't make the same mistakes again or not quite as often."

Asked whether he was planning for next season, Bond said: "I'm looking at plenty of games and players, should I need to do something about it but I'm not losing my focus on the one thing that is on everybody's mind - staying in this league.

"The moment you start to look at what you might be doing next season is when you go into freefall.

"I am aware of all the scenarios and need to lay some foundations.

"But that is all in the distance and upper most in my mind at this moment in time is taking care of this weekend."
