KEVIN Bond is keen to concentrate on the present rather than the future as he sets about sculpting his new-look Cherries side.

The Dean Court boss last week stated that he is hoping to make some "major changes" among the playing staff at the end of the season.

But Bond has also revealed he will be adopting a different recruitment policy to previous boss Sean O'Driscoll whose emphasis was more on picking up unproven youngsters and coaching them with a view to a long-term goal.

Bond will now be looking for players to improve his team with immediate effect.

The Cherries boss said: "I'm looking at a few players when I get a chance and we're compiling a bank of players that we're aware of and could be possible signings in the summer.

"We have got quite a few players in the current squad who haven't figured - but some of those are what I consider to be players for the future.

"So I'll be looking to put more emphasis on signing players that we can use now, rather than ones for the future."

Although that would suggest that Bond will target experienced professionals, he is also keen to use his contacts in non-league football to school the club's youngsters who may not be quite ready for the demands of League One.

Bond said: "We've got a good relationship with Weymouth. We've got players there already and we know Jason (Tindall, Weymouth boss) very well.

"But I also know the people at Dorchester and Eastleigh.

"They are at a good level of football and I'd be more than happy for some of our younger players who are not quite ready for us to go on loan to any of those clubs."

Meanwhile, Bond has slammed any thoughts that Cherries have already secured their League One safety as "ridiculous" as he guards against complacency.

He said: "We were all pleased with the performance and the result against Tranmere, but I'm hearing a few people saying we're alright now'.

"It's ridiculous to suggest we're safe now and it aggravates the life out of me.

"Nobody can afford to get complacent. I won't and I will not allow the players to either.

"It's guaranteed that some of those teams down the bottom will show promotion form over the last eight games. I cannot emphasise that enough.

"We've nudged ourselves a little bit further away from the bottom four, but unless we continue to pick up points, we will be bang in trouble again."
