BOURNEMOUTH Poppies will be kicking their heels this weekend after scheduled opponents Brockenhurst accidentally wrecked a set of goalposts during pitch maintenance.
Tomorrow's Sydenhams Wessex League clash was postponed after one of the club’s well-meaning volunteers mowed down the goal frame and ripped out its foundations (pictured) while dragging a roller over the pitch last Saturday.
Badgers secretary Colin Bell explained: “Whoever was driving managed to demolish the goal. It is all twisted and buckled beyond repair.
“We contacted the suppliers of our goal posts but they could not deliver new ones until the middle of next week so we had no choice but to call off the game.”
A spokesman for Poppies said: “We are disappointed, especially after our midweek win, but it is one of those freak things that cannot be helped.”
The match has been rescheduled for Saturday, March 28.
