EAST Dorset were crowned champions of Dorset & Wilts 2 South following their 39-0 victory over local rivals New Milton II.

Victory, coupled with defeat for closest pursuers Salisbury II, left East Dorset with an unassailable lead at the top with two games remaining.

A first-half blitz from the Iford Lane outfit saw off the challenge of New Milton as East Dorset produced arguably their best 40 minutes of the campaign.

Sam Tresman opened the scoring after charging down a kick and diving on to the loose ball before Chris Poole put them further ahead following a break from their own 22.

Winger Rich Thain outpaced his opposite number to score East Dorset’s third try before lock Sam Linford went over for a well-deserved try.

Matt Sadler finished a superb move by East Dorset, while Tresman’s four conversions and one penalty ensured they would end the first half leading 36-0.

Tresman’s penalty was the only score of a closely-fought second half as Stu Wilson and Chris Culleton’s men sealed the title in style.
