CHERRIES suffered a 2-1 loss at Nottingham Forest tonight. Here we run through the decisive aspects.
1 - POSSESSION IS NOT EVERYTHING
Cherries had a whopping 76 per cent of possession at the City Ground but were still on the wrong end of the result. After early carnage, Forest got their act together and held a solid defensive shape that Cherries struggled to break down.
2 - SURMAN CAN HIT 'EM
Andrew Surman’s opener – while not decisive in the final reckoning – was a thing of beauty. The former Norwich midfielder might not score many goals but this was a real corker, stroked with vicious ease into the left corner. Wonderful.
3 - FRASER AND SMITH CAN BE A THREAT FROM THE START
Ryan Fraser and Adam Smith were a serious menace to Forest, particularly early on. Their pace frightened the living daylights out of Forest’s defenders and Fraser, as against Brentford, proved himself a goal threat. The Scot appears to have matured as a player and could still have a big part to play this season.
MOMENT OF THE MATCH
As previously mentioned, Surman’s glorious long-range strike. A goal worth watching again.
MOAN OF THE MATCH
Another goal conceded just before half-time, as against Brentford. Dealt a huge blow to Cherries’ momentum and sent them into the interval frustrated.
