SWANAGE & Wareham’s seemingly unstoppable march towards the Southern Counties South title continued as they brushed aside Sherborne 41-14 at Bestwall.

Fly-half Charlie Parish contributed 21 points which included two tries while Joe Desmond, Charlie Rowberry, Chris Tomes and Jesse Scott also crossed the whitewash.

The hosts forged ahead in the early stages when a Parish penalty put Swans deep into enemy territory and from the line-out the number 10 dummied his way under the posts, before adding the extras.

Five minutes later the referee signalled for another penalty but Parish ensured there was no need for it to be taken as he instead landed a drop goal.

Swans were guilty of a series of offences at the breakdown but long-range kicks from the visitors missed the target until Tom Lane stroked between the uprights after 20 minutes.

Two minutes later, the Sherborne centre slotted home another penalty to reduce to four points Swans’ advantage.

It was soon try time at the other end when a penalty took Swans to the Sherborne five-metre line and from the line-out, number eight Joe Desmond bulldozed over.

Matters got better for Keith Tomes’s troops as they roared into a 22-6 lead at the break. A swift move saw the ball moved to wing Rowberry and he outstripped the defence to score his 33rd try of the season.

Swans did not let their third-placed opponents off the hook in the second half despite an early penalty by Lane.

The home side replied almost immediately when Rowberry and full-back Callum Baird combined to set up scrum-half Chris Tomes to score a bonus-point try. Parish added the extras.

On came three Swans replacements but still the onslaught continued.

Newly thrown on, Todd Stephens and Scott made an immediate impact as they combined for the latter to touch down and extend to 34-9 the lead.

With 10 minutes left, Parish received the ball from a scrum and charged in for his second try, which he converted himself.

Wing Matt Bray then grabbed a consolation score for Sherborne but it proved too little, too late.

Elsewhere in the division, Wimborne were beaten 42-17 by visitors North Dorset.
