POOLE Pirates charger Dakota North finished fifth at the Australian Solo Speedway Championship as Grand Prix star Jason Doyle bagged his maiden national title.
Needing just six points to secure overall victory at Kurri Kurri – his local track – former Pirate Doyle had gold wrapped up by heat five.
North qualified for the B final with 11 points from his five programmed rides and saw off Jack Holder and Justin Sedgmen to take top spot.
However, the former Swindon man finished at the rear of the field in the A final as Doyle put the polish on victory.
Sam Masters and Rohan Tungate were second and third in the A final, respectively.
Masters, like Doyle born in nearby Newcastle, was second overall while Sedgmen was third.
Pirates asset Chris Holder sustained a dislocated wrist in practice for the third round at Undera and was unable to compete in either of the last two rounds.
