POOLE Pirates reserve Paul Starke insists he has ultimate trust in his mechanic – because that is his dad.

The fast track charger is helped out by former speedway rider Tony, who looks set to assist him once more in the 2015 campaign.

And Starke junior said: “I’m not in the position where I earn enough money to warrant employing a full-time mechanic.

“As far as my dad goes, when I go out I can trust his work more than anyone else because he’s genuinely concerned about my well-being.

“Some people’s fathers don’t know what racing entails and they just say ‘you are not going fast enough’.

“But my dad understands, he listens to what I have to say, takes it on board and tries to sort it out for me. He knows what it’s all about.”

Starke was yesterday named in the Somerset Rebels line-up for their Premier League title assault.

Josh Grajczonek, who played a crucial role in Pirates’ 2014 Elite League success, will skipper the Rebels, with the likes of Brady Kurtz and Jack Holder also included.

Poole’s rider of the year Kyle Newman has been retained by Plymouth Devils for their forthcoming second-tier campaign.
