INTERIM boss Martin Spiers was disappointed in the decision to send off first-team debutant Damien Gorman in Bashley’s 4-0 loss to Yate Town.

Gorman was dismissed by referee Harry Lennard half-an-hour into Saturday’s Southern South & West clash at Bashley Road.

The score was locked at 0-0 when the holding midfielder was red-carded and, after his departure, the Bluebells made their one-man advantage tell with four unanswered efforts.

Spiers disagreed with the decision but praised his players for battling on in difficult circumstances.

He said: “The first yellow card was a good tackle in my eyes and the other one was a deliberate handball.

“The red card was very harsh but I can’t say too much otherwise I will get in trouble. It changed the game but my boys didn’t give up, which was good.

“I think we were the better side until the 30-minute mark and after the sending-off, the good thing was that we still competed.

We were unfortunate to lose 4-0.”

Shortly after Gorman departed the action, Yate hit the front through Jordan Rogers and that was how it stayed until half-time.

Moments into the second period, the visitors grabbed a vital second courtesy of James Harmer before Josh Ford and Jake Jackson completed the rout.
