PROMOTER Matt Ford could barely contain his excitement over Poole Pirates hosting the World Speedway League 2015 – but admitted plans were still in their infancy.

The Wimborne Road chief announced on Wednesday that Pirates hoped to welcome the shale sport’s elite to Dorset on April 24 next year for the single-meeting event between the champions of England, Poland, Sweden and Denmark.

Poole came second in the inaugural event held in Zielona Gora, Poland in October.

Ford, pictured, told the Daily Echo: “It would be a great meeting to stage, even if the financial commitment for the club would be huge.

“Having said that, I believe the public, council and Poole Tourism will get behind the event because it will be a real feather in the cap for the club, the town and its people.

“Discussions are ongoing but I am very passionate about this event and determined to do everything we can to make it happen.

“Being able to see the top riders in the world representing the very best domestic league clubs in the world would be a dream come true. What more could any speedway fan want?”
