WEYMOUTH reserves boss Jake Richmond saw his side withstand a valiant fight-back before crediting Hamworthy United reserves for their impressive showing.
The Terras raced into a 3-0 half-time lead at the County Ground thanks to Luke Chatterton’s double and a somewhat fortuitous third for Josh Tennant.
But second-half strikes from Asa Phillips and Alan Vernon set up a grandstand finish although Hammers were unable to fashion an equaliser despite pushing hard.
Richmond said: “Hamworthy played some brilliant stuff which was really pleasing on the eye. If they keep playing like that, they will start climbing the table.”
Wareham Rangers put a run of three consecutive defeats behind them by chalking up a 2-1 triumph at Cranborne.
Richie Parsons and Paul Harding were on the scoresheet for Rangers, while Mark Gregory was named man of the match.
Rob Froud bagged the only goal of the game as Shaftesbury edged to victory over Parley Sports at Cockrams, while Jack Scovell notched Bridport reserves’ consolation in their 4-1 defeat at Sherborne Town reserves.
Swanage Town & Herston, who were without a fixture on Saturday, return to action tomorrow with a home tie against DPL rivals Poole Borough in the Dorset Senior Cup (7.45pm). The winners will host a plum tie with Southern League Dorchester Town in the last eight.
