PROMOTER Matt Ford has edged closer to completing the club’s 2014 team building by offering contracts to potential recruits.

Ford revealed he was attempting to put the finishing touches to the Poole line-up after he had confirmed Maciej Janowski as Pirates’ latest signing.

Janowski, 22, joined captain Darcy Ward and rising star Josh Grajczonek in the Poole top five, with Kyle Newman and Lee Smart filling the reserve berths.

Ford has 11.5 points to play with for Pirates’ two vacant places and while he is remaining tight-lipped on the identity of his targets, negotiations are at an advanced stage.

“Magic’s signing leaves us with 11.5 for the final two riders,” Ford told the Daily Echo. “Contracts have been offered and I do not foresee any problems.

“We were just waiting on the draft fixture list, which arrived over the weekend. That was a fairly crucial point with one rider. We can now work on that properly.

“It is not necessarily things like terms that stop you signing a rider but it can be the commitments they have in other countries and leagues.

"We needed to see a draft fixture list in order to move forward and now that we have got that, we have something to work on.”

Ford refused to rule out popular Poole asset Krzysztof Kasprzak, whose average is just below eight. A number of riders have been linked with the club, including former favourites Tomas H Jonasson, Rohan Tungate and both Piotr and Przemyslaw Pawlicki.

Echo sources suggest a new name could be a possibility but Pirates chief Ford is playing his cards close to his chest.

He added: “It is a case of making sure the figures work out well for the team.”

Pirates 2014 (starting averages): Ward (9.07), Janowski (6.95), Grajczonek (4.48), Newman, Smart.
