CONNOR Phillips netted twice as Poppies’ revival continued with an impressive 3-1 victory over Wessex Premier rivals Brockenhurst yesterday.

Martin Warren stunned the Grigg Lane faithful when he fired the visitors ahead after 18 minutes before Phillips doubled their lead midway through the second half.

And although Mark Barker struck to halve the deficit with 12 minutes remaining, Phillips restored Poppies’ two-goal cushion late on.

Victory saw Poppies register back-to-back league wins for the first time since February and was also their fourth triumph in their past six games.

Poppies: Bray, Ayrton, Jackson, Burgis, Pearce, Ingram (Hales, 70), Saadi (Cooper, 83), Ward, Warren, Robinson, Phillips. Unused subs: Owens, Turner, Vaughan (g/k).

  • Boss Simon Browne admitted he had revised his targets for the season after watching Hamworthy United slip to a seventh successive league defeat and a ninth in all competitions.

Warren Hunt’s double, coupled with a Jack Lee effort and Conor Bailey’s penalty, saw Moneyfields triumph 4-2, with Sam Lanahan netting twice for Hammers.

To compound Browne’s misery, his player-assistant Lee Chudy saw his spot kick saved after Moneys had been reduced to 10 men following Adrian Brockway’s dismissal for handling on the line.

Browne said: “I was hoping we would kick on after the cup run but we need to stabilise and get some points on the board. It would be a bit dramatic to talk about relegation because I genuinely believe we are not as bad as the results we have been getting.”

Hammers: Tong, Saunders (Brown, 70), Tayler, Biles, Legg, Claremont, Sturgess (Corby, 60), Ford, Penny, Lanahan, Chudy (Horlock, 80).

  • Jordan Cole opened the scoring for Christchurch before goals from Michael Turvey and Jamie Barron earned Folland Sports a 2-1 win at Hurn Bridge.

Priory: Frampton, Cullen, Steer, Baker, Blackburn, Cole, Smith, Foster, Saul, Hiscock, Fairbrother. Unused subs: Doe, Sidley-Adams (g/k).

  • Jack Kabba netted four times as New Milton Town chalked up a 6-0 win over Wessex One rivals East Cowes Vics. Kabba’s haul included one penalty, while Sam Bayston and Matty Dear were also on target. Ringwood ran out 4-2 victors over Stockbridge.
