GOALKEEPER Ryan Allsop shouldered his share of the blame for Cherries’ defeat at Leicester when he admitted: “The second goal was my fault.”

Allsop, restored to the Cherries starting line-up at King Power Stadium, carried the can for allowing Jamie Vardy to net a second-half winner.

The 21-year-old was caught in two minds after Vardy had latched on to Chris Wood’s through ball, his hesitation proving costly for the visitors.

Allsop had looked favourite to win the ball after Wood had clipped it over the Cherries defence, only to pay a heavy price for his indecision.

Vardy’s accomplished finish earned the Foxes a 2-1 victory after David Nugent’s excellent strike had been cancelled out by a stunning Marc Pugh goal.

Conceding in such disappointing circumstances capped a trying month for Allsop which also saw him sent off for the first time in his career and surrender his place to Stephen Henderson.

Despite his mistake, Allsop, just 48 games into his fledgling career, was prepared to face the music when asked for an interview by the Daily Echo.

He said: “I should have come and cleared the danger. But I hesitated, took a step back and that gave him an opportunity to take the ball around me and put it in.

“I am learning with every game and trying to gain experience. Hopefully, I can carry on playing and getting games under my belt.

“It has been a tough month for me. But I have got to get my head down, keep working hard and keep showing the right attitude. As long as I do that, I will keep learning and improving.

“It is no good sulking about anything and you have to take these things on the chin. You have knock-backs in football and it is about how you respond and come back.”

Allsop’s mistake was quickly followed by Cherries going down to 10 men with defender Elliott Ward sent off after collecting a second yellow card just two minutes later.

Cherries boss Eddie Howe told the Daily Echo: “Ryan is still a very young goalkeeper and, if you compare goalkeeper ages in the Championship, he is certainly one of the youngest. I thought he had a really good overall game. He came for crosses and made a couple of great saves.

“He made a mistake for the goal but that is the life of a goalkeeper. He will pick himself up from that. It was a soft goal and there were a couple of incidents before it when we could have done better.

"Ryan had a very good game apart from that. The pleasing thing from his perspective is the mistake is an easy-fix.”
