BOSS Tom Killick believes a plum draw in the FA Cup against League One high-fliers Brentford has “raised the stakes” ahead of Poole Town’s rematch with Staines Town.

The winners of Tuesday’s fourth qualifying round replay at Tatnam will bank £12,500 in prize money and earn a crack at the Bees at Griffin Park on Saturday, November 9.

Poole, who have already won £15,000 for their cup exploits, upset the formbook when they held the Conference South outfit to a 0-0 draw at Wheatsheaf Park yesterday.

The Dolphins, who are bidding to reach the first round for the first time in 30 years, and the Swans were handed a trip to west London during today’s draw which was live on ITV.

Killick told the Daily Echo: “It is a very good draw for both clubs and it has certainly raised the stakes for Tuesday because there is league opposition at the end of it.

“As a non-league club, you want to play a league club and, from a player’s perspective, if you get through, you would rather play away.

“This is an opportunity for both teams to play on a league ground against a league club in a competitive match. At our level, you can go through your entire career and not get an opportunity to do that.”

Poole were beaten in first round replays by QPR in 1946 and Watford in 1962 before QPR again put them out at the first hurdle in 1966. They exited at the hands of Newport County, following a replay, when they last reached the competition proper stages in 1983.

Staines, meanwhile, are managed by former Brentford striker Marcus Gayle who had two spells with the London club and also represented Jamaica at the 1998 World Cup.

Gayle also has an excellent FA Cup pedigree having netted a fourth round winner for Wimbledon against Manchester United on his way to reaching the semi-finals with the Dons in 1997.

However, despite his opposite number’s ties with Brentford, Killick says Gayle’s association with the club should have no bearing on the outcome of the replay.

Killick said: “Neither team is going to lack motivation at this stage. You could tell they were very disappointed with the way they played yesterday and I think their manager was quite angry.

“Both clubs will see it as a great game and both sets of players will be excited by it. It is probably a more exciting proposition for our players because not many of them have been involved with pro clubs.”

Winger Carl Preston, who missed out yesterday due to a one-match suspension, will return for Poole, although skipper Dan Cann serves the second of his two-match ban.

Striker Richard Gillespie, sidelined due to a nagging heel injury, is tomorrow due to have a consultation with Cherries physio Steve Hard.
