CHAIRMAN Clive Robbins insisted Poole Town were relishing the chance to enhance supporters' matchday enjoyment after getting the green light for a Tatnam revamp.

The Dolphins last month gained planning permission for a new north stand, club room, set of turnstiles and toilet block at their base in School Lane.

Poole, who have secured funding from the Football Foundation to help with up to half of the estimated £300,000 cost, have until March 31 to achieve a C grade for their ground from the Football Association.

And having been prevented from starting work on the new facilities while landlord Poole Borough Council considered the necessary changes to the club's tenancy, the Dolphins can now press on with the improvements after being given the go-ahead, subject to conditions.

Robbins told the Daily Echo: “Subject to agreeing the conditions, we are intending to start work as soon as we possibly can.

“We have got to get prices and are some way down the road anyway and we have already done some preparatory work, on the basis that we had got permission.

“We want to produce something which is pleasing from a visual point of view and also does the job for the fans.

“The club room, for the first time in many years, will give us time to entertain visiting supporters. We hope to dramatically improve on that and that is why we went for the planning permission.”

Vice-chairman Chris Reeves, who is dealing with the council on the club's behalf, added: “It is a significant step forward and it gives us something positive to move forward with. We will get on with it. We have got to work within the framework of the planning permission.”

Andrew Flockhart, strategic director for Borough of Poole, said in a statement: “The council is pleased to confirm that it has offered landlord's consent to Poole Town Football Club for the proposed alteration works to the club's facilities.

“There are some conditions attached to the consent which the club will have to agree to prior to the new lease being granted.”

Included on the list of conditions is that the club has to pay in full the council's “legal, professional and other related costs and expenses arising as a result of the proposed development”. The club must also “work with the council to progress relocation of all facilities to Canford Magna or an alternative location”.

Reeves confirmed that the buildings could be moved and relocated to any potential new site, such as the proposed stadium at Bearwood.
