WIMBORNE & Colehill’s recent woes continued as the reigning Dorset League champions slumped to fifth in the table following their 104-run defeat at Broadstone.

Andy Hayward’s men were blasted all over the Delph as the home side posted 263 for five, while Wimborne could only muster 159 in response and were bowled out with 11 overs to spare.

The Minstermen were in trouble from the outset with Broadstone openers Sean Hatton (61) and Pete Russell (70) scoring well. The pair both plundered no fewer than 10 fours, while Hatton also added a six for good measure.

Simon Leadbeater (54) and James Brown (42) ensured there was no let up in the scoring and, despite a late flurry from Ben Bridgen (2-15), the visitors were always facing an uphill task.

Broadstone’s Greg Parsons (4-17) more than matched Bridgen’s efforts, dismissing the opener for eight before trapping George Bartlett in front and clean bowl ing Wimborne skipper Hayward for a first-ball duck.

Francis Kerins (36) put up a strong fight, while Joe Weld (14) and Dave Hills (27) battled manfully until Ross Tooley (3-31) saw them off along with Richard Fenner.

The match was always ebbing away from the Minstermen and it came as no surprise when Parsons finished the job late on to propel Broadstone to third place in the table.

Elsewhere, impressive displays from Badrul Alam and Damith Gunawardana inspired Poole Town to a 22-run success at Dorchester.

Alam (102) passed the century mark before Gunawardana (48*) teamed up with Dave Miller (21*) to share an unbroken stand of 70 as Dolphins posted 250 for six.

Dorch captain Dan Belt (93) put on 117 with Sam Goodhew (45), but the hosts’ lower order flattered to deceive as Gunawardana (5-37) continued his good day at the office.
