JOINT-BOSS Stewart Kearn insists Taffy Richardson will get plenty of playing time after making the veteran midfielder Bashley’s first new signing.

Richardson, 46, makes a stunning step UP the non-league ladder after spending last season with Southern South & West champions Poole Town before leaving Tatnam under a cloud in May, claiming he was underused by the Dolphins.

But new manager Kearn, who has also secured the services of Bash defender Gary Middleton for next season, feels Dorset’s age-defying stalwart still has plenty to offer on the pitch.

Kearn told the Daily Echo: “We will have a young squad so it was important for us to secure some leaders who can dig in and get the best out of people and Taffy will do that job very well.

“I certainly don’t see him playing a bit-part role and he will feature in as many games as we can get out of him. Taff knows his body better than anyone and we trust him to be honest with us so we can get the best out of him. He will be monitored as we go along, but, if he can play every match, so be it.”

On re-signing dependable stopper Middleton, Kearn added: “We’re very happy he’s staying because he has been a big influence at the club. Mido is a valuable asset and all of a sudden the backbone of our side is starting to take shape.

“We’re far from done yet, and we do need to source a good goalkeeper, but there are plenty of targets that we’re talking to and we’re pleased with our progress so far.”
