ANDY Howe – the teenage nephew of Cherries boss Eddie Howe – has been tasked with helping to put aspiring young players on the road to the club’s first team.

The 18-year-old has been appointed by Cherries head of youth Shaun Brooks as development centre manager for the club’s under-seven to under-11 age groups.

He will work under the watchful eye of Brooks and former Cherries star Matt Holmes and will tomorrow take his first coaching session at Canford Park Arena.

Poole-born Andy Howe holds FA level two and youth module two coaching qualifications and has been involved in the academy set-up at Dean Court for the past three years.

Also assistant manager of Poole Town’s reserve team, he spent time analysing the youth and coaching structures at Spanish giants Real Madrid and Malaga earlier this year.

Andy Howe, who has also done some scouting work for Plymouth, told the Daily Echo: “Ed has given me some pointers but I have done everything off my own back.

“I realised from an early age that I was never going to make it as a player but was always keen to pursue a career in the game. I asked Ed what the best route would be and he told me to get as many coaching badges as I could.

“I have taken all the badges I can for my age and have gained as much experience from coaching and scouting as possible. I watch lots of games at all levels, listen to people and make sure I get the right detail.

“The best advice Ed has given me is to make sure I work hard to achieve what I want. My aim is to go as far as I can in coaching or scouting.”
