PIRATES star Darcy Ward is set to see a specialist as he aims to discover the full extent of his hand injury after escaping with no broken bones.

Ward this morning reported that an X-ray had confirmed no fracture in the left hand he hurt in a nasty crash against King’s Lynn last night.

But the Australian remains unsure of the damage he has sustained and is poised to seek further medical advice.

Writing on his Twitter account, Ward said: “Nothing broken but not convinced that nothing is wrong. See a specialist this week. Hope it is just a hell of a knock.”

Ward was thrown over the handlebars of his bike as he battled for the lead in heat 10 of Pirates’ 48-45 win over King’s Lynn at Wimborne Road.

After being treated on track, the 20-year-old was able to walk away but he was forced to withdraw from the meeting with concerns over the left hand he previously injured in a crash at Torun last June.

Captain Chris Holder admitted it could have been much worse.

Speaking after the King’s Lynn clash, Holder told speedwaygp.com: “It was a nasty crash. His engine sprocket came off and that is like hitting neutral. He went from flat-out to just nothing.

“He is a lucky boy that he isn’t too bad. He might have done something to his hand because he has that injury from Poland and there is some metal in there.

“But that could have been legs and everything the way he went over the handlebars. As bad as it was, he was lucky he got away with what he got away with.”
