MIRACLE man Dan Cann defied medical logic to inspire Poole Town to victory and then joked that his surgeon would probably “do his nut”.

Striker Cann netted his first Southern League goal since recovering from a close-season knee operation as Dolphins beat Taunton 4-1 last night.

Cann had originally been expected to miss the entire season but he has returned in time to boost Poole’s Division One South & West title quest.

He told the Daily Echo: “It feels good to be back. It has been a long time but I have worked hard.

“I was on my bike all the time and that seems to have helped because it is all the muscles around my knee that seem to compensate.

“I probably shouldn’t be back yet, to be honest. If my surgeon finds out that I am back playing, he will probably do his nut!”

Dolphins struggled to break down resolute Taunton during a goalless opening 70 minutes – but Cann’s introduction sparked an all-action finale.

A moment of class from Michael Charles lit up the clash and started the rout as he guided a beautiful volley past keeper Grant Fisher.

Charles then won a penalty which Steve Devlin converted.

Cann’s clinical finish earned the night’s biggest cheer before Charles got his second.

Taunton sub Khaled Badavi then brilliantly weaved through four defenders before firing home in stoppage time.

Poole’s moved to within two points of leaders Hungerford, with four games in hand.

Dolphins: Hutchings, Clarke, Spetch, Emmerson, Walker, Kelly, Burbidge (Charles, h-t), Devlin, Byerley (Cann, 65), Preston (Cane, 75), Brooks. Unused subs: Richardson, Dibba.
