MANAGER Steve Cuss watched Wimborne fail to beat lowly 10-man Didcot and then admitted his team had lacked the cutting edge to win.

Wimborne twice let slip a lead and missed their opportunity to capitalise on a numerical advantage.

Penalty king Micky Hubbard put Magpies ahead after Diddy keeper Marco Belloli-Pereira had seen red for felling George Webb in the 18-yard box.

But the Oxfordshire outfit levelled just after the break when Morgan Williams unleashed a left-footed curler that found the top corner.

Jamie Davidson and Webb combined to set up Aidan Sainsbury to restore the hosts’ lead in terrible conditions at Cuthbury.

But Williams produced another fine effort to equalise, before Jon Blake’s injury-time effort was ruled out for offside.

Cuss told the Daily Echo: “We were disappointed not to get the win because we had led twice and played near on 80 minutes against 10 men.

“Ultimately, it was disappointing, but there were no complaints because I didn’t think we did enough to win the game.

“Didcot are a good side and they try to pass it. Their second-half performance was very good and they scored two good goals.

“I was just disappointed we didn’t take advantage. It cost us that we didn’t create chances. The conditions were difficult but they were difficult for both teams.”

Boss Cuss highlighted the performance of midfielder Aidan Sainsbury as one of the positive aspects.

The former Cherries trainee, previously with Bashley, has linked up with Wimborne this season following a spell in the Spanish lower leagues.

Cuss added: “Aidan is a very technical player and a good passer. He was always like that at AFC Bournemouth.

“He makes us play alongside the likes of Micky Hubbard, Jamie Davidson and George Webb.”
