VERWOOD boss Adie Arnold is hoping Jason Lovell can again roll back the years after dubbing the evergreen striker “a freak of nature”.
The local football legend, now in his mid-40s, has been named in the Potters squad to host Wessex League title contenders Blackfield & Langley tomorrow (3pm).
Lovell, a substitute in Wimborne Town’s 1992 FA Vase triumph, is one of the most experienced players still operating on the non-league circuit.
And Arnold is set to put his faith in the ex-Bashley and Poole Town star when Verwood face a daunting test at Potterne Park.
“He has signed as cover,” explained Arnold. “I have an agreement with Jason that while Mike Haskell is banned, he will help out as and when required. He is a freak of nature.”
Premier Division new boys Verwood have also recalled another familiar face in the shape of Dan Goodall.
A striker during the club’s days in Wessex One, the 29-year-old could feature after impressing for Verwood’s reserves.
Arnold added: “Dan hasn’t played for me for a couple of years.
“He comes and goes with football but a few lads are out and he has played a few games for our reserves.
“I know he can play and he is going to help out in the next month or so and then the ball is in his court.
“He is doing me a favour and I know what I will get with Dan.”
