POOLE Town veteran Taffy Richardson says Warren Byerley’s predatory positioning has evoked fond memories of Tatnam hero Charlie Austin.

Striker Austin built a huge reputation with Dolphins before going on to bigger things in the Football League with Swindon Town and Burnley.

Byerley, who is dual registered with Dorchester, has hit seven goals in eight Division One South & West games since joining title favourites Poole.

Non-league legend Richardson, who won the Wessex Premier crown alongside Austin, likened some of Byerley’s play to his prolific predecessor.

Speaking ahead of Poole’s home clash with Yate Town tomorrow (3pm), Richardson told the Daily Echo: “Warren is a proper goalscorer.

“He gets in the right places, a bit like Charlie Austin – places where he is always going to score. He scored a really good goal against Wimborne from the edge of the box but he switches on in the box.

“He is also a genuine, nice guy. His attitude is top class and, training wise, he puts it in.

“Sometimes, if you come down to a lower level, you don't want to be there, but he is not like that.

“He turns up for training, he trains hard and is a pleasure to work with.”

Asked about the comparison with Burnley hotshot Austin, Richardson added: “He is not as athletic as Charlie and is nowhere near as good in the air, but his positioning and eye for a goal is very good. He is in the right place at the right time.”

Captain Michael Walker returns from suspension while Keith Emmerson is also available.

  •  Captain courageous Scott Arnold is set to play through the pain barrier when Wimborne Town visit promotion-chasing Swindon Supermarine.

Arnold required hospital treatment and five stitches after sustaining a gashed shin in Magpies’ New Year’s Day defeat at the hands of Poole Town.

But theright-back looks likely to feature against Supermarine, who have an unbeaten home record in the Southern League this term. Goalkeeper Jason Harvell (suspended) and defender Shaun Brian (ankle) miss out.

  •  In the Premier Division, Bashley visit Frome Town with an unchanged squad.
