Pupils from Queen Elizabeth's School took to the stage at the Pavilion Theatre yesterday for the Bournemouth heat of Rock Challenge 2019.

Nicola Miller, head of dance at QE School, said: "The piece is called Tragedy Below and it’s based on the Turkish mining disaster of 2014, so the Year 13 students have done a lot of the research for it and done all the choreography as part of their BTEC.

"Families were torn apart by the disaster and the students discovered it was children in the mines as well, so the whole community was pulled apart.

"They started researching over the summer holiday and we started rehearsals in October.

"The students love it and they get the opportunity to perform on a professional stage. They love the atmosphere. We’ve got about 72 pupils involved, including performers and crew."
