This old Bournemouth postcard from Eric Kearley of Cambridge is of the square in the 1930s.
Centre top is the Hotel Empress at the bottom of Richmond Hill.
Next to it, going up the hill, is the Hotel Central, which was later destroyed in the Second World War 1943 bombing of Bournemouth.
Opposite are the surveyors and valuers Hankinson & Son Estate Agents.
On the far right of the postcard there is a large building being constructed that could have been the new Beales store, which also became a victim of the 1943 bombing raid.
The red-tiled mock Tudor-styled building with the white clock tower in the foreground appears to be where trams drop off and collect passengers.
