CENTENARIAN Mary Wayman has died three years after celebrating her 100th birthday.
Mary, who passed away peacefully at Ashleigh Care Home in Wimborne, on July 27, was born in Broadstone in 1909.
After serving as an under-nanny, she worked as a nanny in Winchester, London and Bournemouth.
In 1935 Mary met and married builder Stanley Wayman and the couple settled in Corfe Mullen . They had two daughters; Gillian and Miranda, three granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren.
Stanley passed away in 1985 and Mary lived alone until the age of 98, cooking her own meals and looking after herself, before happily settling into Ashleigh Care Home. Her funeral service was held at Poole Crematorium on Thursday, August 9.
Paying tribute to her mother, Mary’s daughter Gillian Smith, who lives in Corfe Mullen, said: “My mother was always very fond of children. She loved knitting and worked on tapestry until the age of 96.
“We had a party to celebrate her 100th birthday with the Mayor of Wimborne and local councillors among guests.”
