DAVID William Holloway, also known as Midge, was born in Poole in June 1941 and would live in the same house all his life.

David, who had three sisters and a brother, trained as a carpenter as his father insisted he needed a trade but his love was always fishing and bikes.

He started working for a local builder then worked at Bluebird caravans for many years before building his first fishing boat, The Aquarius.

When he sold the Aquarius he started work on his next boat Lady Brenda, selecting the trees she would be built from.

David ran fishing parties in the summer and fished for cod in the winter, returning with many stories.

He retired to spend more time building and restoring bikes, his favourite being his Triumph Bonneville.

David loved Tuesday bike nights on Poole Quay and went on to win Bike of the Week and Bike of the Year.

He always had time for family and friends and regularly visited his sisters Audrey in Canada and Janet in Australia.

Great friend and fisherman Sandy Wills will scatter David’s ashes in Poole Harbour, as he wished.

Around 300 people attended David’s funeral, with 10 bikes following the hearse.
