YOUNGSTERS from New Milton showed off their patriotism at their school’s summer fun day when they combined the special occasion with their entries into a competition to design English national costume.
The event at New Milton Junior school on June 26, 1999, was awash with colour after the pupils had submitted a wide variety of eye-catching outfits on paper - although it was eight-year-old Hayley Bolter’s design - with the cross of St George - which was turned into stylish reality.
Her ideas were interpreted by a team of local theatrical costumers and were worn with pride during the fun day. Hayley was also presented with a bike.
All proceeds from the day went towards funding new playground equipment and safety surfacing at the school.
