WITH sunny Sandbanks standing in for Venice Beach, Los Angeles; and Poole’s Lighthouse playing the part of a US festival venue, there’s lots to look out for in low-budget British film, Morris: A Life With Bells On, which makes its television debut on Saturday.
Filming took place in several Dorset locations three years ago this month, but it was the beach scenes that caused the filmmakers the biggest headache.
With just two days allocated to the shoot, persistent rain forced the crew to squeeze the whole scene into just a few hours as the actors embraced the chill breeze.
The film is a mockumentary about a fictional west country village Morris dancing side that sells its soul to rock ’n’ roll and goes on a money-spinning tour of the USA, where its avant garde moves are warmly embraced. But at what cost?
Veteran British actor Derek Jacobi stars alongside Ian Hart, Greg Wise and Pirates of the Caribbean star Naomie Harris.
Morris: A Life With Bells On can be seen on Blighty (Sky channel 534, Virgin Media 206) at 8pm on Saturday; and is out on DVD on July 26.
