A SERVING Dorset Police officer and member of staff have been arrested on suspicion of stealing police property.

The 50-year-old male officer and 53-year-old member of civilian staff were questioned about two separate and unconnected allegations of what is believed to be theft of police mobile phones.

They have both been released on police bail and suspended from duty while inquiries continue.

Dorset Police say they are unable to confirm the identity of any individual involved in the investigations.

In a statement released to the Daily Echo yesterday, Dorset Police said: “Dorset Police is investigating two separate and unconnected allegations of thefts of police property by force employees.

“As a result of inquiries, a serving male police officer, aged 50, and a female member of civilian staff, aged 53, have been arrested.

“Both have been released on bail while enquiries continue. They have also been suspended.

“The matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Com-mission which is supervising the investigation.”

A spokesman for the IPCC confirmed that the organisation was supervising an investigation involving a serving Dorset Police officer and said the identities of the individuals involved would not be released at this stage.
