A COMPANY offering to seek council tax refunds has been targeting Christchurch.

Randall and Vickers wrote to residents saying it believed they may be in the wrong tax band.

The firm offered to seek a band re-evaluation on a ‘no win no fee’ basis, where it would claim back 30 per cent of any refund.

A resident aged 67 from Burton told Echo: “I rang the council and they said they’d had several calls from people about it. They want lots of information about your house.”

After evaluation, council tax bands can go up as well as down.

No-one from the firm replied to enquiries.

Its letter said it will not proceed if it believes there is even a small chance the band will go up.

A spokesman for Christchurch and East Dorset Councils said: “The Stour Valley Partnership has received calls from residents being offered ‘a free investigation’ into their council tax banding.

“If council tax payers believe their property is in the incorrect band, they may make an appeal to the Valuation Office, which they can do themselves free of charge.”
