POOLE’S Olympic match racing hopefuls will today continue their Sail for Gold quest at a windswept Weymouth.
Lucy Macgregor, sister Kate Macgregor and Annie Lush are set to do battle with the Australian team skippered by Olivia Price in the quarter-finals of the event.
The Daily Echo columnists were not in action yesterday as the weather forced organisers to cancel the entire schedule – with medal races for the 10 Olympic classes set to start this morning.
Lymington’s Ben Ainslie, the three-time Olympic champion, will be aiming for victory in the Finn class.
Beijing gold medallist Andrew Simpson, from Sherborne, is competing for Star success alongside Iain Percy.
More than 700 athletes are competing in this year’s Sail for Gold, hosted at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy. The event is billed as a dress rehearsal for the Games.
