FINAL preparations are being made for an event in Burton to honour members of the armed forces.

The Burton Armed Forces Jubilee Day, renamed in honour of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, will take place this Sunday.

Organised by Burton Parish Council, this year’s event will be especially poignant following the death of Royal Marine Luke Taylor from Burton earlier this year.

For the first time, keen photographers with an eye for a picture are invited to send their snaps of the day to the organisers for a competition.

The winning photo will be published in the Daily Echo with those in second and third place posted on the website.

As well as the traditional parade which will start from Burton Primary School around 2pm, there will be entertainment and refreshments on the green.

Three military vehicles will also be present around the green and Lord Lieutenant of Dorset, Valerie Pitt-Rivers will also be attending.

Judy Jamieson, chairman of Burton Parish Council said: “Everybody is welcome at this event, which is always well-supported by people in the village.

“We’d love to see even more people attend this year, to show their support for serving and former members of our armed forces.

“We thought that this year, we would organise a photo competition to get some lovely images of the day.”

The Band of the Royal Corps of Signals will also be attending for the first time and it is hoped more than 1,000 people will line the streets and congregate on the village green for the event.

Entertainment will be provided in the afternoon from Frank Sinatra tribute act, Anthony Adams and a tribute to the two Royal Marines of the village is also being planned.

This will be the fifth event to be held in Burton.

Competition entries should be emailed to judy@judy jamieson.org.uk
