POOLE teenager Summer Greenham will be performing to the biggest audience of her life in July when she takes part in the opening ceremony for the Olympic Games.

Around a billion television viewers around the world are expected to watch the spectacular event, along with 80,000 spectators – including 130 heads of state – inside the Olympic Stadium.

Brockenhurst College student Summer, 18, of Parkstone, was among 15,000 people to attend an open audition in London, some jetting in from abroad.

She has now been told she will be one of 1,000 dancers participating in the ceremony.

Her proud mother Mel said: “She’s over the moon. I don’t think it’s really hit us yet quite how big it is. It’s going to be amazing.

“She’s been dancing since she was three. I think all that hard work and money for lessons was worth it.”

Summer, who is studying for A-level dance and drama and a BTEC in performing arts, said: “I was really surprised at how many people were there for the audition. Some people had come from America.”

Rehearsals start on June 20 and Summer will have to travel to London three times a week to learn her routine.

Oscar-winning film director Danny Boyle, artistic director for the four-hour opening ceremony, has taken Shakespeare’s The Tempest as the inspiration for his Isles of Wonder theme.

Among those rumoured to be appearing are Paul McCartney, Elton John and Take That.
