THE annual awards that honours the very best of Bournemouth’s clubs, pubs and bars had its 2012 launch at the O2 Academy in Bournemouth.

The Daily Echo-backed Best Bar None scheme started five years ago to recognise good practice and responsible operating in the night-time economy. It is overseen by the British Institute of Innkeeping and the Home Office.

The voluntary scheme measures the performance of clubs and bars against set criteria, including health and safety, licensing regulation, fire safety and codes of practice. It also gives the licensed trade an opportunity to benchmark their expertise.

The launch event was attended by representatives from across the borough. Best Bar None is open to all licensed bars, club and pubs in Bournemouth and is free to all members of Town Watch and Pub Watch.

Bars, pubs or clubs in the BH post code area that have not received any information on the scheme should contact Jon Shipp on 01202 451879 or email jon.shipp@bournemouth .gov.uk The closing date for applications is May 25. The awards will be presented at the O2 Academy, Boscombe, on September 19.
